Theme: Colours. Shapes

The aim of the lesson is a formation of students’ elementary communicative competence:  students will be able to name shapes, colours  and differentiate them

Objectives:

  1. To teach students new lexical items (words of colours and shapes); to acquaint them with the language structures- What colour is it? It’s my favourite colour;
  2. To develop their phonetic habits to pronounce new lexis and habits in using it in their speech;
  3. To bring up and form their interest in learning the language

Type of lesson: combined

Methods: pictorial, playing games, pair work

Aids: computer, interactive board, pictures, flashcards

Procedure

  1. Greeting (2 min.)
  2. Warming up (5 min.):
  3. Saying the rhyme: Spring is green,

Summer is bright,

Autumn is yellow,

And winter is white

  1. Revision of the lexis of the previous lesson: Let’s revise the words of the previous lesson- what are they?
  2. phonetic drill: [j] – yellow, yummyyummy, yes; [u:] – two, blue, you, school, room; [ai] – triangle, my, hi; [eǝ]- where, chair, square; [3:] – girl, learn, circle
  • Presentation of new lexical items (green, yellow, red, blue; triangle, square, circle) – 8 min:
  1. Working with the textbook: ex. 1
  2. Looking at the pictures in the textbook and listening to the teacher;
  3. Practicing the pronunciation of the new lexis: pupils repeat after the teacher;
  4. Comprehension check: working with cards (the teacher shows the pictures and the pupils say the new words, then she says and the pupils point to the picture);
  5. Playing “What is missing?”
  6. Listening activity: track 25(students listen to the song looking at the pictures in ex.2, then they sing it along in chorus); track 27 (ex. 4)
  7. Practicing the pronunciation of the structures — What colour is it? It’s … It’s my favourite colour;

 

  1. Drilling (7 min.):
    1. Pair work: students ask and answer the question – What colour is it? Ex. 5
    2. Working with the textbook: speaking while looking at the pictures — ex. 3;
  2. Relaxation moment (3 min.): each student is given a card with a colourin it and a card with a shape in it and agreed that they are ‘frogs’ of different colours and shapes. When the teacher says “Yellow/ green/ square frog, jump”, a student is to jump.
  3. Working with Pupil’s copy-book (7 min.): ex. 1-2
  • Summary (3 min.):

Feedback (Neznaika comes and the teacher asks the children to tell it everything they have learnt);
